Becoming a Christian is actually very easy. Many get it wrong, and think there all these stages. I walked into a church office in 2015, and the Pastor led me through a prayer I said out loud. It is based on the book of Romans. Particularly Romans 10:
Brothers,[a] my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.[b]
The Message of Salvation to All
5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”-(ESV)
The prayer I said was along the lines of this:
“Jesus, I know I am a sinner, and I believe you died on the cross for my sins.
Please come into my life, In Jesus name I pray, Amen”.
If you are vague, insincere, have doubts, it will not take. I did it in August of that year and said it but did not mean it, assumed I was saved and found out horribly I was not. Once I was saved, I got Baptized two weeks later due to schedule at the church. The Baptism is an obedient act to God, that he tells us to do in the Gospels.
You Must Be Born Again
3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus[a] by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again[b] he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.-John 3:1-8(ESV)
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for Romans 5:8
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God- Romans 3:23(ESV)
I remember hearing the Pastor’s wife at our church, at a fellowship meeting once a few years ago. She said that she got married to the Pastor, and was married for a few years and thought she was saved because as a young girl, she went to the altar and cried. Someone came by patted her on the head, and told her to sit down. She assumed she had done it right. So one night at their church, she went to the altar, only to have the Pastor looking at her like she was insane. This time she said the prayer correctly.
There are many false ideas out there about salvation, that you can lose it, that you have to have more than one Baptism. Some believe you only get saved in the water. Untrue! You get saved by belief. Read this from Luke 23:
One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him,[d] saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” 40 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”-Luke 23(ESV)
Did you get it? The one man who believed him on the cross, who acknowledged Christ, was told he would go to heaven!
I have heard countless stories also of people who were saved minutes before their death, as being led by God. Do we assume they won’t be in Heaven because of rules that man made down here? Why are there so many lies out there? Because Spiritual warfare is very real. Satan and the Angels fell from heaven, about a third of the Angels. They wanted their own way, and rebelled against God. They are not in hell, they roam the earth bothering people, spreading lies, ruining God’s Kingdom every chance by spreading false gospels and people believe it. There is more evil in the religion of Christianity than we know. The Prosperity Gospel, Progressives(which is one step away from being atheist), Pentacostal which accidentally invites Satan in by believing lies about being slain in the spirit, and fake healings, to people believing that you are not always saved. There is so much out there for New Christians to learn.
He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies- John 8:44(ESV)
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.-1 Peter 5:8(ESV)
